Rotating Your Car Tires

Car tire rotation is an essential maintenance task to prolong the life of your tires and to ensure safe handling and driving. Whether you intend on doing the task yourself or having it implemented by a professional, it's always important to know how to rotate tires properly.

A tire isn't a tire if it doesn't rotate. Most car tires are rotated on both ways either front to back or side to side. However, some tires are directional. Take note that not all car tires are created the same. It is important that you are familiar with what type of car tires your vehicle has, so you'll able to determine how to take care of it. Car professionals recommend that you rotate car tires roughly every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. If you're a little uncertain, refer to your owner's manual for specific tire rotation guidelines.

For this task, you will need a good torque wrench. You must also support your car with a jack stand to ensure safety. The steps on properly rotating car tires are very simple. Start by jacking up your car using jack stands. Once your car is elevated, carefully remove the lug nuts from the wheel on one side of the vehicle. Swap the original location of the wheels by placing the rear tire on the front, and the spare one on the back. Finally, replace the lug nuts.
